Why you shouldn’t use Extended Silicone Adhesives

It has recently come to our attention that some silicone adhesives available in Australia have been extended with as much as 25% mineral oil. As a service to our valued clients, Boss teamed up with the Admil Adhesives Pty Ltd to investigate the implications of using a cheaper, extended adhesive – please find their Technical Bulliten attached.

What Damage can Extended Silicones do?

Extended silicone adhesives have the potential to absorb the plasticiser from PVC solar collector profile, making the PVC / PVCn less flexible. Over time and under stress this may lead to the collector tubing cracking and/or splitting.

Can Using Extended Silicone Affect my Warranty?

Yes, please be aware that issues arising from the use of extended silicone adhesives may affect your warranty. To ensure the long term reliability of your system and warranty, Boss recommends the use of only 100% silicone adhesives, such as Prosil 60 Neutral Cured Silicone which is available through Boss.
